Coconut Oil For The Skin

By Melissa M Fitzpatrick

There are many benefits associated with the daily use of organic coconut oil for skin. First, it’s full of antioxidants such as Vitamin E, which helps protect and repair the skin. Vitamin E cannot be produced by the body, so it is very important to get enough of it in the diet. It protects against free radicals which cause cellular damage and helps prevent premature aging and wrinkles making it one of the most powerful antioxidants for the skin. I use it as an all over moisturizer after my shower or bath each morning.

There are many ways to include this tropical oil in your diet and daily routine. If you’re just finding out about this miracle food, it does not cause weight gain or have any adverse effects when consumed daily. However, if you never tried it before, you should slowly introduce it to your body, because like with any food, you can have an allergy with it. Also, when applying to the skin, apply to a small area first to make sure you are not allergic to it. It’s also really great to use as an effective deodorant when applied under the arms.

Coconut oil for skin is great when used internally and externally. When I wake up in the morning, I add a teaspoon or more to my coffee since it dissolves easily to liquid form. If you’re not familiar with this oil, it is in solid form at room temperature and melts at 76 degrees F. It doesn’t need refrigeration and easily melts in the palms of your hands when massaged into the skin. You can replace it for any kind of spread such as butter, margarine, or cream cheese. You can also replace it with your household cooking oils.

The Magic Ingredient in Coconut Oil

The magic ingredient in coconut oil is the unique medium chain fatty acids. These saturated fats help to keep the skin smooth by retaining moisture. Coconut oil is good for your skin inside and out, so it’s important to use it both ways for the best results. I use it mostly when frying or baking (and in my coffee or tea). It contains high amounts of lauric acid which is found in human breast milk so it boosts immunity and protects the skin from infection. There are so many reasons why you should try coconut oil for skin.

The lauric acid in the coconut oil gives it its anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-carcinogenic properties. Coconut oil for skin is used to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, dermatitis, dry skin, eczema, and many more. It can also be used on baby’s skin to treat diaper rash and cradle cap. It also works great as an aftershave lotion to help heal the skin and used to treat burns, bug bites, cuts and bruises, healing tattoos, preventing wrinkles and sagging skin, and many more.

I use coconut oil each day internally and externally. I have to say I have never felt this good in my life. I have been able to replace many of my lotions, creams, deodorant, and hair gels with my jar of organic coconut oil. For more information, please visit my website:
